wrench.gifHow to Edit DOOM levels using ZDOOMHEXEN project

 

If you have some DOOM levels but would like to convert them to use the new ZDOOM features in HEXEN mode, here’s what you do:

 

1.

For DOOM - Run the DOOM.WAD through ZWADCONV to make a new IWAD, let’s call it DOOM1Z.WAD

For DOOM2 - Run the DOOM.WAD through ZWADCONV to make a new IWAD, let’s call it DOOM2Z.WAD

Open DeePsea and select the ZDOOMHEXEN project with DOOM2Z.WAD as the IWAD or DOOM1Z.WAD as the IWAD.

If you like, you can make a copy of the ZDOOMHEXEN project and call it ZDOOMHEXEN1. Then make DOOM1Z.WAD the iwad for one and DOOM2Z.WAD the IWAD for the other.

3.

Run any prior levels you have that are DOOM or DOOM2 through ZWADCONV first

4.

Open the level.

a.    You can change the texture names if you have a DOOM level in a DOOM2 (or visa versa).

b.    You can exporting TEXTUREx PNAMES and all the patches for DOOM into a different PWAD and then read that in as a texture replacement.

c.     You could just manually add in the few Texture names and Patches yourself via F7 Texture Editing tools.

d.    Rename the level to match the game you want to use. That is, ExMx to MAPxx or MAPxx to ExMx
